Jason Phelps, Chief Executive Officer
Jason is a Senior leader in the IT Software Industry with Big Data Company Splunk as the Sales Director for UKMEA team selling to Global Banks, such as HSBC and UBS. He worked as the AVP for Northern Europe for Riverbed(OPNET Technologies) as well as the RegTech Company Actiance as the Head of International Sales working in the Financial Industry.

Phil Taylor, Editor
Phil is an English-qualified lawyer, specialising incorporate crime, investigations, and financial services regulatory issues. He is also an experienced writer and editor. His previous experience includes working for a number of corporate clients in Japan, editing academic textbooks, and writing on commercial legal issues for Asialaw magazine in Hong Kong, during which time he travelled across the region conducting research and interviewing leading figures. He also spent two years as editor of China Law& Practice magazine. More recently, Phil spent several years working as a freelance writer and editor, with his work appearing in the International Bar Association magazine and on the Conventus Law website, among many others.

Stephen Lai, Head of Marketing
Stephen is a media and tech entrepreneur with over 20 years experience in the legal and compliance sector. He has been named one of the top 30 people to watch in the business of Law in Asia by the Asia Law Portal. With Reglex, his goal is to provide legal and compliance professionals with tools and information so they can focus on  higher-value strategic work.

Kate Wombell, Chief Compliance Advocate
Kate has a long background in regulatory compliance starting with work at the AFBD(Association of Futures Brokers and Dealers predecessor to the FCA in the UK)and then with several major Global Investment Banks in UK, Hong Kong and Singapore.  As a regulator, she was instrumental in drafting and implementing reporting for the sector’s first set of financial resources and client money rules. She then turned from game keeper to poacher by joining various global banks and had first hand experience of significant market events, not least the Lehman collapse in 2008 where she enabled incoming ex-Lehman teams to be quickly on-boarded (licencing and undergoing necessary training on their new employers’ policies and controls).

Steve Wombell, Chief Technology Officer
Steve is the co-founder of the Xiaa Solutions. Prior to joining Xiaa he was Senior Director for Technical Services at Riverbed and senior roles in delivery of major software project for financial institutions such as Barclays and UOB. He has years of experience in coding as well as leading tech teams to deliver complex products to financial operators.  

Ajay Shamdasani, Editor
Ajay is a veteran writer, editor, and researcher based in Hong Kong.  His 16-year-long career as a financial and legal journalist began as deputy editor of A Plus magazine – the journal of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. From there, he assumed the helm of Macau Business magazine as its editor-in-chief, and later, joined Asia law magazine as its deputy editor. More recently, he spent close to seven years as a senior correspondent with Thomson Reuters’ subscription-based trade-wire service Regulatory Intelligence/Compliance Complete (previously called Complinet) in Hong Kong. While there, he covered regulatory developments in that city, as well as Singapore, India, and South Korea.

Liz Wombell, Chief Operations Officer
Liz is an accomplished business professional with a vast array of skills and experience across multiple industries. She began her career in the media industry, working for the Daily Mail UK, before moving to Hong Kong in the 2000s where she started her own clothing and online jewellery company.  More recently, Liz has worked in the legal industry, supporting fintech and regulatory compliance practices in international law firms. With a diverse career background, Liz has been well-placed to take on projects requiring a broad range of skills, with a marketing and operational background.
